Thank you for helping us grow the Gananoque Lake Nature Reserve ON
We have exciting news to share with you! We are delighted to announce
that we have acquired 58 acres of vulnerable habitat, expanding our
Gananoque Lake Nature Reserve!
We couldn’t have done it without your incredible support. I am so
grateful to everyone who helped us raise more than $400,000 for this
conservation milestone.
This addition has spectacular ecological features, including extensive
shoreline, a black ash swamp, a rich meadow marsh and mature sugar maple
hickory forest. It is an important connecting corridor within the
Frontenac Arch, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Like me, our staff are ecstatic to permanently protect this remarkable
land. In the words of Melissa Thomas, our Nature Reserve Ecologist:
“This area is high priority for habitat protection as it contains and
supports some of Canada’s richest biodiversity and many species at risk.
Thank you for helping us protect this important intact habitat.”
This project was undertaken with the financial support of the Government
of Canada through the federal Department of Environment and Climate
Change the Flanagan Foundation, the Yates Family and many Ontario Nature members.
Thank you for helping us permanently protect this critical habitat
within the Frontenac Arch. With your support, we are safeguarding
wildlife of this beautiful natural area for generations to come.
Sincerely,
P.S. You can read our media release for more details about the acquisition.
